ThyssenKrupp Presta Camshafts is the leading manufacturer of assembled camshafts
Assembled camshafts from ThyssenKrupp Presta Camshafts can be used in both car and truck engines. Their main use is in in-line or V-type engines with three to twelve cylinders. The maximum shaft length is currently roughly one meter but lengths of up to 2.20 meters would be possible without difficulty.
The assembly technology developed and patented by ThyssenKrupp Presta Camshafts has proven itself in many years of production use. The components are mounted sequentially on a steel support tube, with the mounting points being prepared by a roller burnishing process. The components are then pressed onto these points at an angle and with high axial precision, producing an extremely firm fit. High-quality lobe materials can be combined with less costly and less highly stressed materials for the tube and ends. The wall thickness of the tube can also be varied according to requirements. Due to reduced processing and finishing requirements there are also advantages in terms of capital and production costs. Assembled camshafts are available both as raw, unground shafts and in ready-to-fit form.
Overall, a weight saving of 30% can be achieved versus a conventional camshaft. Further functions can also be integrated, including assembly aids, sensor elements, pump lobes, oilways, bearing elements and camshaft adjusters. Even drive elements can be integrated without difficulty. In each case the components are designed to match the particular load situation. Independent of the components, assembled camshafts from ThyssenKrupp Presta Camshafts allow the transmission of high static and dynamic torque. The whole valvetrain displays better dynamic properties. And last but not least, the lower fuel consumption resulting from the reduction in weight and the improved wear properties have persuaded more and more truck manufacturers to choose ThyssenKrupp Presta.
ThyssenKrupp Presta Camshafts is an innovative partner to the international auto industry and one of the most successful manufacturers of camshafts, valvetrains and bearing block modules. With over 1,100 employees at six locations worldwide we produce more than 20 million camshafts per year, and the trend is rising sharply. The Camshafts division has evolved into one of the world’s leading suppliers of assembled camshafts.
