ThyssenKrupp plays host to young New Yorkers
15 New York students are spending the Easter holidays with ThyssenKrupp host families in the Rhine and Ruhr region. They are among 280 young New Yorkers - split into groups - who are touring Germany over the Easter vacation as part of the "New York - Berlin Bridge" project.
The "New York - Berlin Bridge" originates from an initiative by German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, who invited 1,000 young people aged between 16 and 18 to visit Germany during his visit to New York after the September 11 terrorist attacks. ThyssenKrupp spontaneously agreed to sponsor 100 of the young people and is one of the main backers of the project.
Together with RWE and Hochtief, ThyssenKrupp invited the students from the "west group" as well as the children of the host families to take part in a program of events on Maundy Thursday. After a tour of the new stadium in Mönchengladbach and a boat trip on the Rhine, the New Yorkers joined their host families for dinner and music at the Dreischeibenhaus headquarters of ThyssenKrupp in Düsseldorf.
