Cooperation agreement signed Freiberg University and ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG to collaborate

ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg have concluded a cooperation agreement, signed in Duisburg on March 4 by Chief Executive Dr. Karl-Ulrich Köhler and Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Georg Unland.

The main aim of the cooperation will be to promote engineering sciences, in particular material sciences and material technology. "The goal of our collaboration will be to make optimal use of the resources available to both partners in these areas to promote talented students, provide further training and education, exchange scientific findings and support university events to the benefit of all involved," said Köhler of the project. "The scope of cooperation and the individual activities will be determined each year in line with current requirements and priorities," added Unland. "A forum for dialogue on the various areas of cooperation will be created as a basis for this collaboration."

With an initial term of five years, the agreement provides for the following examples of practical cooperation: The company will provide grants for particularly talented students, bestow a "ThyssenKrupp Stahl Award" for the best and fastest intermediate examination, and offer internships and support with research projects, dissertations and theses. In addition, particularly qualified employees of the ThyssenKrupp Stahl group will be given teaching assignments in the material sciences and material technology faculties; in cooperation with specific chairs, employees of the company will also offer suitable lectures and events for students.

"These measures are intended to intensify the exchange of knowledge and experience between both sides, creating concrete links between university education and industry," said Köhler and Unland. "Our collaboration will not be limited to the individual activities indicated, but can be extended at any time via the cooperation committee."
