MaterialsServices segment: New steel selection software from Thyssen Schulte
At Hanover Fair 2000 Thyssen Schulte GmbH will be presenting its new steel selection program entitled "Chemical resistance of stainless steels to effluents". As the first materials trader to develop computer programs for manufacturer-independent steel selection in 1996, Thyssen Schulte is now offering fabricators a further means to optimize the use of steel.
The properties a stainless steel must display for effluent applications depend primarily on the chemical composition of the effluent in question. Thyssen Schulte's new program contains 25 criteria to define the loads on stainless steel in effluents and identify the required material, including temperature, pH value, chloride content, chemical conductivity, water hardness and flow speed.
After entering these criteria, a click of the mouse is all it takes for the Thyssen Schulte software to provide a selection of suitable stainless steels for the application in question. Users can also access a database with further details on the suggested steel grades. These include processing information such as the welding behavior of the materials and their mechanical and physical properties.
The easy-to-use, easy-to-install software will run on any standard computer equipped with an operating system from Windows 95 upwards or Office 97 professional. The program is particularly ideal for designers, engineering offices and equipment manufacturers engaged in the fields of water and sewage treatment plants. Component suppliers who process steel can also find out quickly and reliably which steel is suitable for a given application.
