ThyssenKrupp Stahl Bochum plant celebrates Family Fun Day
Over 9,000 employees, family members and friends celebrated a Family Fun Day at Griesenbruch sports ground on Essener Strasse in Bochum last weekend. On both days, ThyssenKrupp Stahl also opened its doors to visitors – on Saturday for a tour of the hot strip mill and on Sunday for a look round the cold rolling mill. ThyssenKrupp Stahl Executive Board Member Dr. Jost A. Massenberg popped by on Saturday and was impressed by the atmosphere: “A lively family party that once again demonstrates the great potential of our company – highly committed and motivated employees and their families who will keep steel, the company and the industry moving forward in the future.”
“People’s interest in the company far surpassed our expectations,” said Dr. Herbert Eichelkraut, director in charge of production in Bochum. “The families and friends of our staff only know our plant from the outside, and that’s why lots of them took the opportunity to get to know the plant and its most important production facilities from the inside as well.”
The entertainment program at the sports ground was extremely varied. Visitors were entertained with music by the band Daylights and demonstrations performed by local sports clubs, including the Bochum Starlets cheer team and gymnastics club Turnfreunde Herne 2001. Excitement was provided by a climbing wall, bucking bronco and an action display by the plant fire service. For the kids the entertainments included bouncy castles, horse carousels and face painting. “The weekend was a complete success,” said Eichelkraut, who also disclosed that ThyssenKrupp Stahl Bochum plant will be repeating the “Family Fun Day” as a communications medium.
