EBA 2 in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth back in operation
Electrolytic coating line 2 (EBA 2) in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth, which was badly damaged by fire on September 14, 2005, has been put back into operation. The first coil was produced 8 days ahead of schedule on December 20, 2006.
Following the fire, a reconstruction strategy had to be drawn up which received approval in March 2006. EBA 2 specializes in extremely high-quality products for the auto industry, such as thin film coated sheet. It is planned to equip the line with modules for further innovative coating technologies in the future.
Reconstruction was completed in the record time of 9 months after approval. This was largely due to the commitment of employees from all specialist departments of ThyssenKrupp Steel, who carried out much of the work themselves. However, the flexibility and efficiency of numerous suppliers from the Rhine-Ruhr area also played an important part. This is particularly true of the companies gefeba from Gladbeck and ThyssenKrupp Anlagenservice, who restored the line’s fully destroyed technical systems in a very short space of time.
