ThyssenKrupp Technologies and bonding stage Engineering Competition for university students
The finals of the second ThyssenKrupp Technologies Engineering Competition will be held at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg from October 26 to 28, 2006. The shipyard belongs to the ThyssenKrupp Technologies Group. Eight teams from the universities of Aachen, Berlin, Bochum, Braunschweig, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich and Karlsruhe will compete on Friday, October 27.
The engineering undergraduates will be required within eight hours to cope with a practical engineering problem and then submit their solutions to a jury made up of representatives from ThyssenKrupp Technologies and the various universities. Judged are not just the quality of the solutions but also such factors as the systematic approach to the project work, teamwork, and the style of presentation to the jury members.
"The ThyssenKrupp Technologies Engineering Competition gives engineering undergraduates an early taste of the kind of work done by a project engineer. We want to kindle their interest in this kind of activity and in our group as such," comments Martin Hilbig, Head of Corporate Department Management Development at ThyssenKrupp Technologies.
The qualifiers for these engineering undergraduates have been going on at the universities since May of this year and the winners now have the opportunity at the finals to prove that their studies are not short of creativity and practicality.
The winning team will be awarded a scholarship from the Rheinstahl Foundation plus noncash prizes. A supporting program is also on the agenda at the shipyard.
Organizing the competitions and the finals are bonding-studenteninitiative together with ThyssenKrupp Technologies.
