Megacontract for new silicon-metal plant in Kazakhstan
Düsseldorf-based ThyssenKrupp Mannex GmbH, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Services AG, has been awarded by Silicium Kazakhstan LLP a contract to supply plant and technical equipment for a new silicon-metal works in Kazakhstan. The order is worth more than €60 million and comprises all the plant and equipment. Deliveries will be completed by year-end and commissioning is set for 2008.
On completion of the plant by ThyssenKrupp Mannex, its Essen-based affiliate ThyssenKrupp Metallurgie GmbH (also part of ThyssenKrupp Services), will take over exclusive global marketing of the entire production of silicon metal (around 25,000 tonnes annually). Silicon metal is an essential ingredient in the production of aluminum casting alloys as well as being used in the chemical industry for making such products as silicone and semiconductors (for processors and solar cells).
Both companies have for many years now had good business ties with Kazakhstan.
