ThyssenKrupp Nirosta investing in new skin pass mill at Dillenburg site
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta is strengthening its Dillenburg plant (approx. 730 employees) with an almost 18 million euro investment in a new skin pass mill, a central unit of the cold rolling facility. Preparatory work has now begun and the order has been placed with equipment manufacturer BWG Bergwerk-und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbH. The new skin pass mill for the downstream treatment of cold-rolled stainless steel is scheduled to start production in early 2012.
The market trend for stainless strip is toward materials with higher yield strength and improved flatness. These requirements can no longer be adequately met with the old skin pass mill, which was built in the 1960s. ThyssenKrupp Nirosta therefore decided to install a new unit for thicknesses from 0.20 to 3.50 millimeters. Among other things, the investment will improve strip quality, increase productivity and allow customer requirements to be better met.
