Krupp Uhde to celebrate anniversary 80 years at the Dortmund location
When Dr. Friedrich Uhde founded his company 80 years ago on April 6, 1921, he had just seven employees: three engineers, a designer, a draftsman, an office clerk and a driver. Krupp Uhde GmbH now employs 3,200 employees worldwide.
The company`s founder, Dr. Uhde, started out by using coal to produce ink for the printing trade at a "chemical factory" in Dortmund-Bövinghausen. However, his first triumph was soon achieved with the first ammonia plant. And this success proved him right: his ammonia synthesis process known under the Mont-Cenis-Uhde process is respected and often used. Uhde did not spend the money he earned on consumer goods but on his experiments and research. He and his family and employees were left to live on the breadline: "I know that this is the only way. We have to keep up with the future." From then on, the company has seen a varied and vibrant development.
Krupp Uhde GmbH is today one of the world`s leading suppliers of large-scale chemical plants. This also includes Uhde`s ammonia technology, in which the company, a member of the ThyssenKrupp Group, is one of the world leaders.
Krupp Uhde is a company in the ThyssenKrupp Technologies segment and has a workforce of 3,200 employees worldwide. The company`s activities focus on the design and construction of chemical and other industrial plants in the following field:. fertilisers, organic chemicals and plastics, electrolysis, oil and gas and pharmaceuticals.
