Krupp Hazemag S.A. receives major order for Turkish power station
Krupp Hazemag S.A., a French sister company of Essen, Germany-based Krupp Fördertechnik GmbH, is to supply the complete coal handling plant for Turkey´s biggest lignite-fired power station. The order worth around 600 million French francs was placed in December by the Babcock subsidiary BBP Energy GmbH. BBP Energy is part of a consortium entrusted with the 1.6 billion dollar overall project by Turkey´s state-owned utility TEAS. The new Afsin Elbistan B power station will be built in Elbistan, eastern Turkey, and comprise four units each generating 360 megawatts. The first unit is scheduled to come on stream in 2003. The coal handling plant will be designed to meet the strict environ-mental regulations imposed by TEAS.
In addition to the planning work required for the complete coal handling facili-ties, Krupp Hazemag S.A.´s order also includes the delivery, installation and hand-over of a complete coal stockyard system with two stackers, three re-claimers and corresponding conveyors. The stackers each have a capacity of 6,000 tonnes per hour, while the reclaimers can remove coal from the stock-piles at a rate of up to 4,750 tonnes per hour.
Krupp Hazemag is also supplying a complete screening and crushing plant, including two Siebra swivel-arm crushers, two hammer mills, four roller grizzlies and two bunker reclaimer cars plus associated belt conveyors, mill feeder conveyors and magnetic separators. A dust-extraction unit and a sampling station are also included in the screening and crushing plant. The 24 Blendo-mats used to discharge and blend the coal in the bunkers have diameters of seven meters and are thus among the biggest units of this kind ever built. Belt conveyors with a total length of some ten kilometers will transport the lignite from the stockyard to the crusher house, feed coal from the crushers to the boiler house bunkers and remove the ash. Redundancy features have been built into all machines and equipment to ensure maximum availability of the overall plant. In addition to equipment supplies, the order also takes in installation and start-up supervision for the four generating units over a period of three years.
Elbistan B is the second power station to be erected in the region. Krupp Fördertechnik GmbH, Essen supplied the coal handling plant for the Elbistan A lignite-fired power station built in the 1980s. The follow-up order is evidence of the successful operation of Krupp Fördertechnik´s systems and equipment and represents a further example of the company´s materials handling and coal preparation capabilities.
