Brazil is ThyssenKrupp's number one market in terms of sales and production location in South America.
The local companies comprise a workforce of about 14,550 employees. Technologies, Elevator and Services have the biggest presence. With 6,100 employees in the Technologies segment, the Group is one of Brazil's leading automotive suppliers. The biggest production company is ThyssenKrupp Metalúrgica Campo Limpo Ltda., established as a local automotive supplier back in 1954. Today, the company employs more than 3,000 people. ThyssenKrupp Elevadores S.A. is Brazil's second-largest elevator company and employs 2,200 people.
Brazil is earmarked as the site of ThyssenKrupp's largest foreign investments. The new steel mill will be built in the coastal location of Sepetiba in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It will have an annual capacity of 4.4 million tons of steel. The investment will include two blast furnaces, a meltshop with two converters and two continuous casters, all meeting the latest environmental standards. The mill is to be built together with the Brazilian ore producer Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD).
