Germany in Japan Year 2005/2006
Japan and Germany have enjoyed close and friendly relations for almost 150 years. "Germany in Japan Year 2005" is aimed at further strengthening the traditionally good relationship between the two countries. This year and next, Germany will be staging a wide range of cultural, business and academic projects in Japan designed to provide the Japanese public with an insight into modern German life and the many facets of Germany. An important aspect of this will be to present Germany as a leading high-tech industrial nation in the heart of Europe. During Germany in Japan Year over 1.000 events are planned nationwide. Patrons of the initiative are His Imperial Highness, Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler.
"We have also had close links with Japan for almost 150 years. We therefore welcome and support this important initiative," said Dr. Olaf Berlien, member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG responsible among other things for Japan.
