Environmental and climate management
The Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp has defined responsible environmental and climate protection as an important corporate objective. A group-wide environmental and climate management was set up to pursuit this objective. It is coordinated by our department Corporate Sustainability, Environment & Politics.
As part of environmental and climate management, we define globally standardized requirements for our Group companies, improve internal reporting and promote exchanges within the Group. Environmental and climate protection experts meet regularly to exchange experiences on the Group's environmental and climate protection management system. An intensive exchange on current developments, operating best practices and regional environmental and climate protection legislation also takes place at regional level.

The environmental and climate management is being developed further in workshops.
Environmental protection on site-level
The environmental and climate management systems of our Group Companies are tailored to the specific needs of each site. Group Companies with a significant impact on environment and climate have already implemented an environmental management system according to the internationally recognized ISO 14001 standard or another comparable standard. This ensures responsible environmental protection at our locations.
Precautionary approach to environmental risks
Managing financial and property insurance risks is an integral part of ThyssenKrupp's risk management system. We have installed a systematic and efficient risk management system based on the principle of subsidiarity. Several risks categories refer to environmental and climate change issue which helps our Group Companies to better identify and manage their risks. Furthermore major risks mostly related to political developments (e.g. European Emission Trading Scheme) are subject to a group commission on public policy.
