Partner for the "Jugend forscht" youth science competition

The Group has been supporting Germany’s largest and most successful youth science competition, “Jugend forscht” (“young people researching”) for several decades.

In the competition, young scientists step inside the world of research. They embark on a voyage of discovery in the seven disciplines – work environment, biology, chemistry, geosciences and astronomy, mathematics and computer science, physics and technology and work with formulae and structures, experience fascinating technology, start expeditions into the world of nanotechnology or discover scientific phenomena on our or other planets.

There are cash prizes involved, but even more importantly also research and study trips, and of course a large number of contacts.

The competition is open to young people aged 21 or under. Younger pupils wishing to enter should be in the fourth grade. You don’t have to be Einstein or Columbus to enter, but what young researchers do need are curiosity, creativity and endurance.

In addition to the annual regional heats in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Saarland, ThyssenKrupp has already hosted a number of national competitions in cooperation with the Jugend forscht e.V. foundation – most recently in Essen in 2010. We will also host three regional heats again in 2012.
