Help for Haiti

ThyssenKrupp employees also donated money to help the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

In January 2010, a devastating earthquake shook Haiti in which almost 300,000 people lost their lives. Virtually the entire infrastructure in the region surrounding the capital, Port-au-Prince, was destroyed. Several million inhabitants of this already poor country have nothing left as a result and urgently need help.

A Groupwide appeal for the victims of the earthquake collected donations from employees and ThyssenKrupp AG doubled every euro donated. With the money, ThyssenKrupp employees are supporting the Kindernothilfe charity in the reconstruction of a school center in Port-au-Prince, the development of six village schools in areas affected by the earthquake and other emergency school programs. For many of the children in Haiti affected by the earthquake this will give an opportunity to return to school and have the chance of a better future.

Action!Kidz launch relief campaign for Haiti at ThyssenKrupp

Help for Haiti was also the focus of the "Action!Kidz – children against child labor" campaign organized by the Kindernothilfe charity. The launch event in 2010 took place at ThyssenKrupp in Essen. The "Action!Kidz" helped out in the employee restaurants and collected donations for the so-called Restavec children in Haiti – children who have to live and work in slave-like conditions in other peoples’ households because their own families are too poor to feed them.
