For ThyssenKrupp, the health and safety of employees is a corporate objective of equal standing with the quality of our products and business success.

A preventive health policy and improving safety at work and working conditions are therefore key management duties. To achieve a further significant improvement in health and safety, the company has combined all Group measures in the “Zero accidents” initiative.

Under this initiative, business-related health and safety measures are also implemented in the subsidiaries. The focus is on activities which raise the safety awareness of all involved and in particular of our executives. Key countries are Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. We are currently preparing similar programs for China, the USA and Brazil.

Our increased commitment to health and safety at work shows a good record. In fiscal 2010/2011 the accident rate in the Group decreased again, with the number of accidents worldwide down by 17% – from 10.2 to 8.5 accidents per 1 million hours worked. Overall, the accident rate has decreased by around 42% in the last four years.
