Steel Americas
ThyssenKrupp Steel Americas includes the strategic projects under construction in Brazil and the USA with which the ThyssenKrupp Group is investing in the growing premium segment of the flat steel markets in the NAFTA region. The companies in this business area are ThyssenKrupp Siderúrgica do Atlântico in Brazil and ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, LLC in the USA.
As part of quality control, several iron and slag samples are taken during each tapping operation and analyzed in the chemical laboratories.
In the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, a steel mill complex is being built with an annual crude steel capacity of 5 million metric tons. This major investment includes the construction of an integrated steel mill with two blast furnaces, BOF shop, two continuous casters, coke plant, power plant and a captive port. Three million tons of the slabs produced will be processed in the USA.
In Calvert, around 40 miles north of Mobile in the state of Alabama, a new processing plant is currently being built for this, including hot rolling, cold rolling and coating lines. Two million tons of the steel produced in Brazil will be processed in the German plants of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe.
Once the plants under construction in Brazil and the USA start operations, the Steel Americas business unit will focus exclusively on the production, processing and marketing of high-grade carbon steels.
