Born in 1953, trained as motor mechanic.
Ralph Labonte was trained as a motor mechanic. From 1972 to 1974 he worked at Karstadt AG, Essen, before moving to Mannesmann Hüttenwerke AG, Duisburg, as a machine operator in the finishing shop. In 1975 he joined the Handel, Banken und Versicherungen trade union as trade union secretary, becoming federal youth secretary to the trade union executive committee in 1976. From 1979 to 1987 he was trade union secretary at the Duisburg administrative office of IG Metall. He subsequently joined the Düsseldorf office of the IG Metall executive committee as trade union secretary.
In 1994 he was appointed Labor Director at Thyssen Guss AG. In 1998 he joined the Management Board of Thyssen Umformtechnik + Guss GmbH in Bochum, where he also acted as Labor Director. In 2000 Mr. Labonte was appointed member of the Executive Board and Labor Director of ThyssenKrupp Automotive AG, Bochum.
Since January 2003 Ralph Labonte has been a member of the Executive Board and Labor Director of ThyssenKrupp AG. He also held the same position at ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, Duisburg, from January 2003 to September 2005. From October 2005 to September 2009 he was also a member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG, Essen.
Ralph Labonte is responsible for Human Resources as well as ThyssenKrupp Corporate Services and ThyssenKrupp Real Estate.
