Born 1956, studied metallurgy at the Technical University of Clausthal, gaining doctorate in 1988.
Career:
Dr. Köhler began his career with Thyssen Stahl AG, Duisburg in 1980. In 1988 he moved to Hoesch Stahl AG, Dortmund, where he was made head of steelmaking/hot flat products in 1990 and director in 1992. In 1996 he was appointed deputy board member for technology before being confirmed as a full board member in this role in January 1997.
In September 1997 in connection with the merger of the flat steel activities of Thyssen and Krupp Dr. Köhler was appointed Executive Board Member of ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG, Duisburg, responsible for Operations 2 and thus for the hot strip, cold strip and coated products businesses as well as for research and central quality and inspection.
Since October 2001 he has been Executive Board Chairman of ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG and at the same time Executive Board Vice Chairman of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, Duisburg.
He became Executive Chairman of the new ThyssenKrupp Steel AG and Executive Board Member of ThyssenKrupp AG on October 1, 2005.
