Elevator
The trend toward ever more populous mega-cities and increasing traffic volumes is placing higher demands on the efficiency and reliability of passenger transportation systems. ThyssenKrupp Elevator is already meeting this challenge today.
All from a single source
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the world's third-largest elevator company and is represented at over 800 locations in more than 60 countries. Products include passenger and freight elevators, escalators and moving walks, stair and platform lifts, passenger boarding bridges as well as service for all products. The group services 800,000 installations worldwide. ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the only elevator producer which can offer the full range of passenger transportation systems. Our national and international projects are correspondingly varied: at Shanghai Pudong Airport, Beijing International Airport and the Beijing Olympic Park, products from ThyssenKrupp Elevator will speed people on their way to flights and sporting events. Our products will also feature in the Federation Tower in Moscow, currently under construction, and in the planned Freedom Tower in New York.
Going up - faster
There is a tendency to regard elevators and escalators as a relatively new invention. In fact they go back over 150 years. But that doesn't stop us from constantly re-inventing elevators, escalators and moving walks. A good example is our unique TWIN, an innovative elevator system featuring two cabs in one shaft. The cabs are arranged one above the other and are not connected, running independently to different floors using shared guide rails. This enhances capacity and, by eliminating elevator shafts, saves on building volume. The TWIN system offers architects and building planners completely new possibilities to meet the individual wishes and needs of their customers. Use of the TWIN creates space for new building concepts, greater design freedom for integrating the elevator systems into the architecture, and optimizes passenger transportation. More passengers can be transported quickly to their destinations and the amount of rentable space is increased. The four-stage safety system – also developed by ThyssenKrupp Elevator – ensures that a minimum distance is always maintained between the two cabs. A prerequisite for TWIN systems is the use of a destination selection control system. Customers in Munich, Frankfurt am Main , Valencia, Moscow and Seoul have already decided in favor of the TWIN. In addition to numerous conventional installations, for the Royal London Hospital we are also supplying the first ever bed TWINs for fast and efficient patient transportation.
Progress through innovation
The TurboTrack is another of our innovations. For decades, experts have been discussing the possibility of moving walks for distances of 150 to 1,500 meters which allow passengers to enter and exit at normal speed and then accelerate much faster in the central section, allowing greater distances, e.g. at airports or exhibition centers, to be covered more quickly and in greater comfort. The entry and exit sections of the TurboTrack move at 0.65 seconds per meter, while the central section accelerates to up to two meters per second – twice normal walking speed.
With passenger numbers constantly on the rise, it is important that safety developments keep pace. One example is our successfully launched e-escalator. This system not only makes escalators more cost-efficient and easier to service, it allows information to be transmitted from safety and monitoring sensors. This technology is factory-integrated in all new-generation escalators, making them the safest, most forward-looking models in the world.
