Born in 1958, studied information technology at the University of the German Armed Forces, Neubiberg, graduating as Diplom-Informatiker in 1982.
Career:
From 1978 to 1990 he was trained and employed as an officer in the German Army and at the same time provided management support for Glockengießerei Perner GmbH, Passau.
In 1990 he joined the Bertelsmann group in Gütersloh as assistant to the IT director. A year later he was appointed managing director applications development, and in 1994 became managing director of Mohndruck Grafische Betriebe GmbH. From 1995 to September 2002 he was chairman of the management board of the Mohn Media group. In 1996 he was also appointed to the management board of Bertelsmann Industrie AG, which was renamed Bertelsmann Arvato AG in 2000.
Since October 2002 Edwin Eichler has been a member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG and also Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Services AG. Effective October 1, 2006 he was additionally appointed Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG.
