Dr. Hans Christoph Atzpodien
Chairman of the Management Board of Business Area Marine Systems of ThyssenKrupp AG
Born in 1955, studied law at the University of Bonn, where he earned a doctorate.
Career:
He began his career in 1982 in the legal department of Otto Wolff AG in Cologne.
In 1990, he moved to Thyssen Industrie AG, where he was in charge of legal affairs for large-scale plant business. Three years later, Dr. Atzpodien became the head of Project Management and Project Controlling at Thyssen Still Otto Anlagentechnik GmbH in Bochum, a company belonging to Thyssen Industrie. In 1994, Thyssen Industrie appointed him General Manager of Magnetschnellbahn-Planungsgesellschaft mbH, with headquarters in Schwerin, which had been established for the preparatory planning of the Berlin-Hamburg Transrapid project.
In October 1997, parallel to this, he first became a member of the Management Board and, as of July 1998, spokesman for the Management Board of Thyssen Transrapid System GmbH (now: ThyssenKrupp Transrapid GmbH) in Kassel. He was appointed to the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Ingenieurbau in July 2000.
Dr. Atzpodien was an Executive Board member of ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG from October 1, 2001 and also CEO of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems from March 15, 2007. He has been CEO of the Marine Systems Business Area of ThyssenKrupp AG since October 2009.
