Which activities does the Steel Europe business area include?

In conjunction with the Steel Americas business area the Steel Europe business area includes the production, processing, and marketing of premium carbon steel flat products.
The Steel Europe business area includes high-performance steelmaking and hot-rolling facilities in Duisburg and a broad spectrum of specialized processing and coating line.
The Steel Americas business area includes the steel mill and the carbon steel processing facilities that are currently under construction in Brazil and the USA.

Where are Steel Europe's main locations?

ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG sees itself as a European steelmaker with headquarters in Duisburg on the Rhine. Here we operate high-performance steelmaking and hot-rolling facilities. At our other locations such as Dortmund, Bochum, Siegen, Finnentrop and Neuwied in Germany and plants in Italy, France, Poland, Spain, Turkey, China and the USA we have a broad spectrum of specialized processing and coating lines. ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel operates two plants in Gelsenkirchen and Isbergues (northern France). Rasselstein has established the world’s largest tinplate location in Andernach. The Metal Forming unit, which was integrated in fiscal year 2006/2007, manufactures components and assemblies for the automotive industry.

What is Steel Europe doing for the environment?

Steel Europe companies are committed to using environmental- and resource-friendly production systems which are among the best in the world. As part of the environmental management system, almost all locations are intensively audited by independent organizations once a year. 85% of all businesses have an ISO 14001-certified environmental management system. Operating costs for integrated pollution control in the Steel Europe group totalled more than €350 million in fiscal year 2007/2008. The majority of this was spent on water and air protection followed by recycling and noise reduction/landscape protection.

What priority is attached to research at Steel Europe?

One of the cornerstones of our differentiation strategy is our high technological competency. R&D is therefore a top priority at Steel Europe; in fiscal year 2007/2008 our companies invested around €200 million in research, development and quality assurance.
Our R&D activities are aimed at promoting strategic development: Modern steel solutions as intelligent combinations of new materials and coating processes with modern component concepts. In core industries, as in the automotive industry, target-oriented solutions are developed with our customers together and directly implemented.
