Social networks

This website offers you the opportunity to access a number of links to particularly popular social networks via the "Social networks" link in the footer of most pages.

What are social networks?

Social networks are internet portals (web services, net communities) where you can present yourself, contacts, bookmarks and interests – and exchange them with other users.

With a social bookmark service (e.g. www.delicious.com, fa.vorites.com), you can – depending on which service is used – add, delete, rate or comment on your own bookmarks, sort them into categories or add tags to them. You can also view the bookmarks of other users and add them to your own collection.

Communities are networks where you can present a detailed profile of yourself (e.g. www.facebook.com, www.myspace.com). You can publish opinions, impressions, experiences, videos and images and allow other network users to access them.

Websites specializing in social news (e.g. www.digg.com, www.newsvine.com) enable you to add reports, news or content together with a brief comment. On these sites, the users decide by voting – for or against a report – which news becomes popular and is displayed prominently on the web service site.

A blog is a diary or journal in website form with a chronologically sorted list of entries which is usually publicly viewable. You can set one up – often free of charge – via various blog services such as www.blogger.com, discuss topics and exchange views with other bloggers.
In microblogging (e.g. www.twitter.com), you publish short text messages up to a maximum 140 characters. Tags (known on Twitter as hashtags – e.g. #thyssenkrupp) enable you to find all microblogging entries on a specific topic.

How do I register on a social network?

The registration facility can be found on the homepages of the providers. In many cases a user name chosen by you and a valid e-mail address are all you need to join a network. You can often also use other networks with your access data.

How do I add the current page to a network?

Click on the "Social networks" link at the bottom of the ThyssenKrupp website page you want to add and select your preferred web service from the menu. The homepage or login page of the web service will then be opened. Once you have logged in/registered, you will be able to add the website to the service and attach any comments if necessary.
