Poland
The first contacts between ThyssenKrupp and Poland were recorded in 1848. In 1878, Rheinische Stahlwerke (today ThyssenKrupp Technologies) sold four Bessemer converters to AG Warschauer Stahlwerke. Between 1882 and the mid-1930s, a large number of coke plants, coke ovens and byproduct plants were built by the then Group member company Dr. C. Otto & Comp. In 1894 the first Henschel locomotive was supplied to Poland.
Today, Poland is ThyssenKrupp's most important sales market in Central and Eastern Europe. With sales of almost €940 million in fiscal year 2006/07, the country is one of ThyssenKrupp's top 10 foreign markets. More than half of the sales are generated by our Services segment.
The largest ThyssenKrupp company in Poland, ThyssenKrupp Energostal S.A., Torún, with 830 employees, is also part of this segment. In 2006, the company opened its third warehousing and service center in Dabrowa Górnicza, after Poznan and Warsaw. The range is focused on rolled and stainless steel, steel tubes/pipes and nonferrous metals. With a storage area of around 70,000 m², the new facility is the largest warehousing and service center in Eastern Europe. ThyssenKrupp Stal Serwis Polska and ThyssenKrupp Stainless Polska from the Steel and Stainless segments have also been integrated into this location to generate synergies.
Altogether, local ThyssenKrupp companies in Poland employ over 1,400 people.
All figures relate to to the 2006/2007 fiscal year, Annual Report, as of September 30, 2007.
