Italy
With sales of almost €3 billion in fiscal year 2006/07, Italy is ThyssenKrupp's second- largest market in Europe. The strongest segment is Stainless. Stainless also has the largest production site in Italy. Around half of the 7,000-strong workforce is employed by ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni S.p.A. and its subsidiaries, the Group's largest company in Italy with a market-leading position in the stainless steel sector.
Another important ThyssenKrupp employer in Italy is Berco S.p.A. with more than 3,100 employees. The Technologies segment company is engaged in mechanical engineering and is the market leader in the manufacture of undercarriage components for tracked vehicles and machine tools.
In addition to these major activities, ThyssenKrupp has numerous trading and services companies in Italy, ensuring that virtually all the Group's products can be supplied locally.
