With sales of around €2.3 billion in the 2010/2011 fiscal year, is Italy, after USA, the No. 2 foreign market for ThyssenKrupp. Around 2,900 of the roughly 6,400-strong workforce are employed by ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni S.p.A. and its subsidiaries, the Group's largest company in Italy with a market-leading position in the stainless steel sector.

Another major ThyssenKrupp employer in Italy is Berco S.p.A. with around 2,700 employees. The company of Business Area Components Technology is engaged in mechanical engineering and is the market leader in the manufacture of undercarriage components for tracked vehicles and machine tools. In the same Business Area produces Rothe Erde Metallurgica Rossi S.p.A. with his 190-strong workforce large diameter slewing rings and sells seamless rolled rings.

Thanks to numerous acquisitions, ThyssenKrupp Elevator has expanded its presence in Italy in recent years. Around 480 ThyssenKrupp Elevator Italia S.p.A. employees in 15 branches and sales offices serve the Business Areas of new installations, modernization and servicing of elevators, escalators and moving walks. With ThyssenKrupp Encasa S.r.l. (round 100 employees), the segment has an important manufacturer of platform lifts and home elevators in Italy.

Moreover ThyssenKrupp has numerous trading and services companies in Italy, ensuring that virtually all the Group's products can be supplied locally.
