The United Kingdom is the No. 6 foreign market for ThyssenKrupp, with sales reaching €1.8 billion in 2010/2011. ThyssenKrupp is represented in the United Kingdom with about 40 local subsidiaries (lt. Konzernübersicht 38) and joint ventures that are concentrated in a national holding company. The majority of the total of 3,400 Group employees in this market work for the UK subsidiaries in the steel business. The second largest group of employees is working for companies in the materials business, e.g. as general materials provider for the Aerospace industry. ThyssenKrupp Elevator manufactures, sells and services elevators and escalators in the UK.
