Local culture
ThyssenKrupp actively supports opera houses, theaters and museums
ThyssenKrupp has its roots along the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. This region is therefore particularly close to our hearts. In wide-ranging partnerships we contribute to the cultural development of the Rhine-Ruhr region.
ThyssenKrupp is a member of Friends of Deutsche Oper am Rhein and supports both the Duisburg Philharmonic and the Philharmonic Concert Hall in Essen. In summer 2009 the Group supported an exchange project between the Duisburg Philharmonic and the orchestra of Duisburg's twin city Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The Schauspielhaus theater in Düsseldorf can also count on our support.
ThyssenKrupp supports the Folkwang Museum in Essen and the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. ThyssenKrupp was involved in a public private partnership project to purchase the extensive estate of the Duisburg sculptor and painter Wilhelm Lehmbruck for the Lehmbruck Museum to ensure the works permanently remain in the region.
Ruhr Piano Festival
ThyssenKrupp has been supporting the Ruhr Piano Festival for over twenty years. The 2009 Ruhr Piano Festival will again feature numerous new discoveries as well as familiar faces - for example Anne-Sophie Mutter, Martha Argerich, Lilya Zilberstein, Daniel Barenboim, the Staatskapelle Berlin, musicians from the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Lang Lang, Herbie Hancock and Alfred Brendel.
