Purchasing and Strategy

At ThyssenKrupp, we have a clear strategic focus and share one vision in purchasing and supply management:

act. together.      manage. markets.      increase. value.

By acting together, and by professionally managing global supply markets, we sustainably increase values for our company.

We have defined six focus areas to translate a Groupwide purchasing and supply management strategy into action. Depending on their specific business and requirements, our Group companies may concentrate on individual aspects within the six fous areas.

Ralf Jacke, Vice President and Head of Strategic Purchasing within Corporate Center Materials Management of ThyssenKrupp AG, explains: “What we do in the focus area of Purchasing Excellence, for example, is to encourage the global exchange of information and know-how among the purchasing professionals in our Group. In our Category Management, market-orientated pooling strategies are developed and realized in close cooperation between the Category Managers and the Group companies involved. In the focus area of Supplier Management, we apply state-of-the-art methods to select, assess and develop our supplier base. All focus areas have been aligned to support our Group's sustainable value-driving strategy.“

Responsible conduct within the supply chain

ThyssenKrupp is a co-signatory of the Code of Conduct of the German association of materials management, purchasing and logistics (Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logisitk e.V. (BME)). The Code of Conduct is based on the Global Compact principles, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO). We work to ensure that our suppliers also comply with the BME Code of Conduct.
