EuroBLECH 2012 in Hanover - Innovative diversity of steel from ThyssenKrupp
ThyssenKrupp traditionally takes part in EuroBLECH, the sheet metal industry’s leading international trade show. At this year’s EuroBLECH, which was held in Hanover from October 23 to 27, Germany’s leading carbon steel and materials supplier used a newly designed booth to highlight the wide-ranging applications of its products and showcase its expertise in different sectors.
Under the motto “Steel diversity – from a single source”, ThyssenKrupp presented outstanding materials expertise and cutting-edge engineering for diverse applications and solutions. The booth consisted of eight islands: automotive, trucks, construction, appliances/furniture, packaging, machinery, renewable energies and sheet metal processing. Individual business units and subsidiaries of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe were represented, as were companies from the Materials Services business area – including ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel, Hoesch Hohenlimburg, ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein, MgF Magnesium Flachprodukte, ThyssenKrupp Materials International, ThyssenKrupp MetalServ, ThyssenKrupp Schulte and ThyssenKrupp Stahl-Service-Center.
Exhibits were selected to demonstrate the company’s cross-cutting steel capabilities: for example the new sandwich material LITECOR® for the auto industry. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe developed this modern lightweight material for use in flat parts such as spare wheel wells, doors, lids and roofs. The bend- and dent-resistant steel-polymer composite combines the high strength of steel with the low weight of modern plastics – weight-optimized, cost-efficient, eco-friendly and readily formable.
With GammaProtect® ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe presented an innovative coating for automotive parts. The newly developed finish provides effective cathodic corrosion protection even on hot-stamped parts and is therefore particularly suitable for parts in the wet area of the car body.
A diverse range of surface textures and colors coupled with outstanding corrosion protection and good formability – all this is possible with ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s new organic coated products. The new coil coating ReflectionsPearl® for example is the first collection of its kind for creating steel facades with a unique look. The combination of special-effect paints and light surface texturing produces a vivid, constantly changing play of colors particularly suitable for premium-quality high-rise buildings. Impressively demonstrating this was the huge rear wall of the booth – coated with ReflectionsPearl®.
The companies of the Materials Services business area also presented their broad spectrum of carbon/stainless steel and nonferrous metal flat products in Hanover. In addition, they showcased their specific processing and service packages. There was also a demonstration of how magnets are used in sheet handling.
EuroBLECH is the world’s number one exhibition and trend barometer for the sheet metal working industry. Materials, machinery, systems and tools in line with this year’s theme “For a sustainable future” were on display at EuroBLECH 2012. The focus was on efficient and resource-friendly manufacturing systems, energy-saving innovations, lightweight construction, and the processing of new materials. With 60,500 trade visitors, 1,520 exhibitors from 39 countries and net exhibition space of 84,000m², this year’s EuroBLECH came close to breaking all previous records.
