China is ThyssenKrupp's most important market in Asia. Currently we employ more than 6,100 people there in our local subsidiaries and Representative Offices. The Group's sales to customers in China amounted to almost €1.1 billion in fiscal year 2006/2007. From steel mills to elevators, steering columns to corrosion protection, we have a wide spectrum of activities in China.
The country represents an attractive market for our technologically advanced, high-quality products and services. In November 2006, ThyssenKrupp Elevator opened a new plant for escalators, moving walks and passenger boarding bridges in Zhong Shang in the Chinese province of Guangdong. The many ThyssenKrupp activities in China were concentrated in a national holding company in 2005.
